Schmincke Norma is a top-quality artists' oil colour for demanding professionals. The Norma Oil Colours are made with the same care as the Mussini Oil Colors, but is considered a modern color palette. These paints contain the best genuine artists' pigments and the finest linseed and sunflower oils. All colors are carefully ground the traditional way on a three-cylinder mill after which they are aged for several months to optimize pigments and oil absorption before being filled into tubes. The Schmincke Norma professional line contains an outstanding, brilliant range of colors in 35 ml tubes with the highest possible lightfastness.
The Art Spectrum Oil Color range consists of 94 colors. All art Spectrum Oils are finely gound on triple roll granite mills with the maximum pigmentation practically possible. Setting the Art Spectrum range apart from others are a number of features. The most notable is firstly, the unique "Australian" colors such as Pilbra Red, Australian Red Gold, Australian Leaf Green Dark, Tasman Blue and many more. Second is the inclusion of Transparent Black, Clear Oil and Titanium White #2 (thick) in the range. After exhaustive testing Art Spectrum oils have recently been selected by the Royal Academy in London, England as the only oil color brand to be offered for sale to members in it's Academy store. We invite you to experience perhaps the only commercially available range of professional oils available today designed and manufactured by a practicing artist. You will notice the difference that passion and knowledge bring to the Colourmen's art.
Getting perfection from each and every pigment is no simple matter. When milling oil colour, each pigment must be treated and milled as an individual, with every surface on each particle fully enveloped by fine oil. It's that perfect dispersion that translates into the signature "feel" and the luminous reflection of light and colour that make fine oil so irresistible. Even more important, the dispersion determines stability in the tube and is a key player in the ultimate stability of the colour on the surface. Winsor & Newton researches, formulates, and mills each and every colour individually. The result is something that comes only with generations of experience and expertise in working with artists' colour: the perfect dispersion.
Made from modified linseed and safflower oils, Winsor & Newton Artisan Oil Colour has a soft, buttery consistency that handles just like conventional oil colour, but can be thinned with water rather than hazardous solvents. Clean up is easy with just soap and water!
Of Oil and Water and Chemical Marriage Counselors
Just because oil and water don't mix in your kitchen doesn't mean there aren't other methods to make them happy in each other's company. A most effective route is through the addition of a chemical
emulsifier - a kind of molecular marriage counselor - that has an attraction on one side of the molecule for water and, on the other, 'warm feelings' for oil. The result? A happy match made, if not in heaven, at least in the laboratory. A marriage that is highly stable and eminently practical - particularly when you want to use water as a solvent to loosen up oil colour or to clean brushes. Artisan Water Mixable Oils work in exactly this way. Formulated with modified linseed and safflower oils, Artisan is, in every way, shape, and form an oil colour.
Mix with Water Artisan provides all the characteristics expected from conventional oil colour: High pigment strength, a high proportion of single pigments, and variable opacity. The key difference is their ability to be mixed with water.
Drying Time The water evaporates out of the paint film fairly rapidly leaving behind a conventional oil colour film that dries by oxidation, as normal. All colours are touch-dry in 2-12 days.
Artisan Makes a Lasting Impression Winsor & Newton have taken the lead in working with the conservation community on research to confirm the stability and anticipated permanence of Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colour.
Chemical analysis has indicated that any added water fully leaves the paint film within a short time; no water remains "trapped" to weaken or loosen the colour on the canvas. Adhesion and drying time have been shown to be comparable to conventional oil colour. Research has also shown that the dried Artisan film is similar to a conventional oil film in solvent resistance and other measures of stability.
In fact, Artisan may remain slightly softer than conventional oil colour, offering increased flexibility, which is a very good thing. Your canvas can flex with changes in temperature and humidity; a paint film that will go along with it will better resist cracking or lifting.
